Today I got a chance to show my buddha nature. As I was standing in the bike lane, at a red light, this oversized truck decides to honk at me to move because he wanted to turn right and I was blocking his way.
I did not.
The light changed green and as I cycled away I yelled in my loudest and angriest voice, "Have a little patience you mother fucker!"
I stopped counting the number of times I called someone a motherfuckin' idiot on my ride home.
Sigh. Back to the meditation bench.
I've traveled far and wide to get here. For sentimental reasons I've held onto my old blogposts. If you're curious about my past this blog used to be called Canadian GirlPostdoc in America. It documented my experience as a Canadian postdoc living and working in the United States. Now I work in the biotech industry and practice buddhism. Still married to HippieHusband and we've since had an addition - our dog.

Isn't it standard bike etiquette to allow get out of the way so vehicles can turn right?
Getting honked at is annoying, but I would probably have made way, unless the light was about to turn.
@Anon I was in the bike lane - an actual lane painted on the road. If the truck had been normal sized it would have been able to turn right, but it wasn't. So in my opinion the correct thing was the truck should have just waited.
@Ed No where to go.
ok, thanks, just checking.
im a selfish asshole both on bike and in the car, so i don't know for sure the proper etiquette anyhow.
On a similar vein, I am going to make a t-shirt that says "it's a bike lane motherf*cker" so I can just point at my back when there are people who insist on driving/parking/honking in it.
@Anon
That's brilliant. Can I have one of those t-shirts?
