The most interesting part of a small town in America is the prevalence of Christianity. Churches are like Starbucks (or Tim Hortons) here one every block. I can’t say that the same is true in Canada, though I haven’t really lived in anything smaller than 1 million people. Our new home is filled with lovely inspirational reminders of what it means to belong to a good Christian family. Including the word “Cherish” written on the notebook left with instructions from the couple whose home we have taken over for a couple of years. We have wonderful reminders of how to thank Jesus each time we take our shoes out of the closet where the shelves are labeled Christian Vocals, Praise/Worship, and Piano/Christian. When I need my toque (and it is cold here already) I just ask HippieHusband and he says, “the toques are on Christian Vocals.” As an evolutionary biologist living in small town America, I can't help but think that this is just the tip of the iceberg.
I've traveled far and wide to get here. For sentimental reasons I've held onto my old blogposts. If you're curious about my past this blog used to be called Canadian GirlPostdoc in America. It documented my experience as a Canadian postdoc living and working in the United States. Now I work in the biotech industry and practice buddhism. Still married to HippieHusband and we've since had an addition - our dog.
