I returned two very very overdue library books today. It turns out that faculty don't have to pay any fines at Small University's campus library, unless the book is recalled! Meh, I didn't say anything about not really being faculty. I figured - close enough.
I guess that's the one good thing about being Faculty at SU even if you get fucked up the ass at least you don't have to pay a late fee!
I've traveled far and wide to get here. For sentimental reasons I've held onto my old blogposts. If you're curious about my past this blog used to be called Canadian GirlPostdoc in America. It documented my experience as a Canadian postdoc living and working in the United States. Now I work in the biotech industry and practice buddhism. Still married to HippieHusband and we've since had an addition - our dog.

I you take what you can get, little things or not!
GOD I FRIGGIN HATE THIS!!!!!!!!
Even when I was an undergrad, there weren't fines unless the book was recalled.
Then, where I started grad school, it was the same thing for grad students (don't know whether it was the case for undergrads there).
But now, at the super "ZOMFG we're awesome, super rich great library having Uni", they charge fines to grad students and staff (postdocs) for overdue books.
However, I've got them: they send out fine notices and payment envelopes in the mail! But the fine doesn't change. So, I'll wait, make them send me more than enough to cover the fine, and HAHAHAHAHAHA take that!
(sorry to use an old blog post of yours to vent - there's just nothing more of a "you're not worthy" slap in the face than to have such different policies for university members).
@Nat
No problem about venting in the space. That's what its for. Plus I agree - it is a slap in the face. But apparently only one of many that a postdoc must endure. Luckily through some error, I was able to save face.
I like your strategy of the waiting game!!
